Dr. Glen Laman

Glen’s recently published book, Jamaican Entrepreneurship: A review of the characteristics, traits and ideas underlying the success of some of the island’s most accomplished entrepreneurs, has put him on the interview and lecture circuit among the Caribbean communities in the USA and Caribbean. This well-received book examines fifteen outstanding Jamaicans and their divergent paths to success.

In Jamaican Entrepreneurship, Glen turned to a question that had long intrigued him: How is it that a poor country like Jamaica, a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), possessed so many independent small business owners who were able to survive and even thrive in a tough economic, political, and social environment?

In Jamaican Entrepreneurship, Glen turned to a question that had long intrigued him: How is it that a poor country like Jamaica, a Small Island Developing State (SIDS), possessed so many independent small business owners who were able to survive and even thrive in a tough economic, political, and social environment?

Glen responded to the call of entrepreneurship when he opened a restaurant in a shopping mall. He later pioneered the sale of frozen coconut water and other frozen natural juices in the Atlanta market when he started a business which imported them from Jamaica.

Born in rural Jamaica in the parish of St. Ann, he migrated to the USA after graduating from Kingston College and attended Pace University and Brenau University for undergrad and master’s degrees respectively.  Later in life, he enrolled in the University of Management and Technology’s DBA program and found himself immersed in learning how to carry out advanced research in the behavioral sciences.

Glen had a long career in IT and worked for several Fortune 100 companies such as The Coca-Cola Company, AT&T and JC Penney as programmer, systems analyst and project Manager.

Glen is a past president and founding board member of the Jamaican Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta. He is a member of the Faculty Corps at the University of Management and Technology.

Glen lives with his wife, Toni. They  have two children and three grandchildren.
